Oceanside--A 65-year old apartment manager has been found fatally stabbed in one of the apartment units that he managed. The decomposed body of Ernest J. DiCarlo was found Thursday night in Apartment 4 at 328 S. Weitzel St., coroner's officials said. An autopsy showed that he had been stabbed several times in the chest. DiCarlo had been last seen by apartment residents Oct. 21 and they reported him missing the next day. The autopsy showed that he had been dead about a week, the coroner's report said. A broken knife handle was found in the room where DiCarlo's body was found, as was some food that had been opened recently. Police said a resident detected an odor coming from Apartment 4, broke in and found the body. Oceanside Sgt. Dick Roach said there were signs of a struggle in the apartment, and that the telephone line in the victim's own apartment had been cut before his body was found. Investigators say they know of no motive for the slaying and have no suspects.

Next day's newspaper reported 2 Marine's were arrested in connection with his death.
