Mr. Schlaf was born in Spalding, Nebr., on Sept. 26, 1897, the son of Peter and Nellie Schlaf. It was in Spalding that he received his education and became an automobile mechanic.

He later moved to Moorland, Okla., where he married Miss Mary June Holloway.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Schlaf returned to Spalding, where he continued working an as auto mechanic. Eleven years ago they moved to Chico where he owned and operated his own business.

Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Dwight and Irwin Schlaf, both of Chico, and Cpl. Robert D. Schlaf, who is stationed at the Presidio at San Francisco, two daughters, Mrs. Neoma Bailey of Glenn and Mrs. Betty June Breedlove of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Emmet Schlaf of Cedar Rapids, Nebr., Mrs. Anna McLain of Spalding, Nebr., Mrs. Marie Hensman of Omaha and Bernard Schlaf of San Luis Obispo.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 in the chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home.
