Lakin, a resident of Fergus Falls for nearly 40 years, died at Lake Region hospital Tuesday at 5:35 p.m. He had been ill for the past year and was admitted to the hospital Sunday. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lakin, he was born at Little Falls, Dec. 9, 1889. He came to Fergus Falls two days before the tornado in June 1919. He was employed as janitor at the Northwestern Sash and Door company for 14 years. when he retired a year ago. He worked for the H. D. Merrill Construction for many years and was night jailer at the city hall for eight years. Mr. Lakin was married to Clara Pries in Fergus Falls in June 1931 [1930]. She died Dec. 18, 1957. He lived at 305 East Washington until he sold his home and went to live with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Landmark, 417 East Vaga. He had been cared for by his sister who came here in January from California. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Landmark of this city, and Mrs. Rudy Posch of St.. Helena, Ore., four brothers, Charles of St. Helena, Oliver of Antioch, Calif., Rupert at Cloquet and Leonard of Los Angles. He also leaves a step-son Walter Pries of Monterey Park, Calif., a step granddaughter, Mrs. Geraldine Smith of Boswell, Ind., and two step great grandchildren. Mr. Lakin was well known throughout the county. A host of friends as well as his relatives mourn his death. Funeral services will be held at the Glende-Johnson chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Parbst officiating. Interment will be in Knollwood. The Northwestern Sash and Door company will be closed during the services.
