Posted at Find-A-Grave.com. The Herald-Times, Oct 13, 2008: SPENCER - Frank R. Stewart, 83, of Spencer, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Bloomington Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1925, in Indianapolis to Frank and Virginia (Martin) Stewart. Frank graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He entered the Army as an Aviation Cadet on May 14, 1943. Frank Joined the Indiana National Guard in 1945 and served until May 31, 1985. When he retired he was a lieutenant colonel. Frank had a varied career, producing Maple Syrup, the Timber Business and Land Development. In 1962 he joined Owen Community Bank and at the time of his death he was the organization's longest serving Director. He served as President 20 years, then became Chairman of the Board. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Spencer Presbyterian Church, Spencer Masonic Lodge and the Bloomington American Legion. He was a collector and promoter of Indiana artists.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty R. (Royer) Stewart; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dr. Ted and Amelia R. Hunley of Spencer; nine nieces and nephews, Jane Mellenthin of Spencer, Pat and Jay Andrews of Louisville, KY, Susan and Peter VanBuren of Baltimore, MD, Mary Jane and John Rice of Bone, ND, David and Coleraine Hunley of Furlong, PA, William and Kathy Hogan, Richard and Vicki Hogan, all of Spencer, James and Yvonne Hogan of Jasper, IN, and Cathy and Larry Morley of Spencer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Spencer Presbyterian Church. Pastor Diane Wells will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with military graveside services provided by the Indiana National Guard. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home.
