The Bakersfield Californian, Bakersfield, California,Tuesday, August 7, 2007: Donnie Lee Skaggs---Surrounded by family and friends, Don went home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2007. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 2, 1938, Don was raised by his parents E.W. and Marie Skaggs in San Bernardino, CA. Don was called into the ministry and attended Southern California College where he met his wife of 46 years, Shirley Cowan, who he married on August 20, 1960. Together they have four children. He was a loving husband, father, and Papa who enjoyed spending time golfing with his sons and friends. He was employed by the County of Kern for 25 years and Tulare County for another 10. He pastored churches in Frazier Park, Lindsey, Boron, and his ministry ended at Riverview Assembly of God in Bakersfield. Don was an active member of First Assembly of God in Bakersfield at his time of death. Don was known as Dad, Papa, or Pastor Don, to all he knew, but especially to the family he left behind. Don was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, two sons and their spouses, Cindy Turney (Eddy), Mark Skaggs (Susie), Michael Skaggs (Debbie), Christy Rogers (Paul); special family member, Robin Schwartz; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; and two great- grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel today, Tuesday, August 7, from 2-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wednesday, August 8, at 9:30 a.m. Please join the family in a celebration of his life at a gathering to be held at First Assembly of God, 4901 California Avenue, at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 8, 2007.
