Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, Iowa, Wednesday, August 6, 2014: Janet E. Buchan Sullivan entered into heaven Monday, Aug. 4, 2014. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Grand View United Methodist Church, 3342 John Wesley Drive. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church. Janet was born on Oct. 3, 1929, at Laying-In Hospital, Chicago, daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Clason) Buchan. She graduated from Caldwell Elementary School, Bowen High School and received her B.S. from the University of Dubuque. On Sept. 1, 1950, Janet married Richard J. Sullivan II at First Presbyterian Church in Chicago. She was a social worker for the Department of Human Services in Dubuque and was presented the State of Iowa Service Certificate for 27 years of service. Janet loved horses and was a member of her high school's equestrian team. When riding her horse in Grant Park, Chicago, Janet was stopped by the park police for excessive speeding! Gardening, reading, family camping and painting china were some of her favorite pastimes. Janet was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary of Dubuque, District 9 Flotilla 6 and Mobile Nobles (Shriners). Surviving are her husband, Richard, of Dubuque; her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sullivan, of Dubuque, and Sandra Lynn (Max) McCullough, of Waterloo, Iowa; her son, Richard John Sullivan III, of Portland, Ore.; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Erin and Laura McCullough; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and James. A Janet E. Buchan Sullivan Memorial Fund has been established.
