(21 May 1919 - 13 Sep 2005)

San Francisco Chronicle, September 16, 2005: KLETT, Philip J., Jr. - At rest after a long battle with prostate cancer, "P.K." passed away on September 13, 2005 at the age of 86. Following graduation from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, IA, Phil was hired by United Airlines as a flight dispatcher and attended the Boeing School of Aeronautics in Oakland, CA. He was an operations manager at the S.F. Intl Airport when he retired after more than 40 years with his beloved airline. At the height of his career, he was appointed chairman to merge the airline's flight dispatchers with those from Capital Airlines. Phil's negotiating skills were commended by the lead representative from Capital who literally handed Phil the shirt off his back at the conclusion of the sessions. Based on his contributions to aviation history, Phil's name has been inscribed on the National Aviation and Space Exploration Wall of Honor at the Udvar-Hazy Center outside of Washington, DC. Phil began a second career in real estate selling and managing property in the Foster City area for many years. Phil was an ardent fan of the late President Ronald Reagan, as they were youth camp counselors together growing up in Iowa. His admiration for Mr. Reagan was fulfilled when Phil and his wife Doreen had the opportunity to meet with the former president in 1997. Phil excelled at and enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing, especially the last 22 years with Doreen. He leaves behind his loving wife Doreen; his son Colin (Helen); devoted granddaughters Erica Klett and Lisa Fouts, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Leonardini; brother-in-law, Mike Leonardini and three stepchildren: Deb (Terry) Lineberger; Karen Schulz; and Joe (Nicole) Carberry, and six grandchildren.
