Robert Garner, Jr., 63, Butler, Mo., died Sunday, April 9, 2000 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Services were April 12 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler with The Rev. Jeff Patton officiating. Burial in Oak Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Mr. Garner was born May 30, 1936 in Rich Hill, Mo., to Robert Lawrence and Wilma Thomas Garner. One of two sons, he lived in the Amoret and Butler areas for most of his life. He met his bride through an evangelist and on Jan. 27, 1964 married Carolyn Ann Flick from New Castle, Penn. To this union six daughters were born. He served two years in the U. S. Army at Fort Riley where he received an honorable discharge in 1961 and earned a Sharpshooters Badge and a medal for Good Conduct. He worked at the Lens Plant five to six years and Otasco for 15 years, both in Butler, and Family Center in Harrisonville, Mo., eight years before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on televisions and lawn mowers. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He leaves his wife of the home, daughters Susan Lowry and husband Tim, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Janice Boswell and husband Mike, Montgomery City, Mo., Debbie Garner and companion David Rappold, Kansas City, Kan., Roberta Stout and husband Johnny, and Martha Kiger and husband Mike, all of Rich Hill, and Nancy Frost and husband Neil, Appleton City, Mo.; a brother Kenneth Ray Garner and companion Susie Swinehart, Rich Hill; nine grandchildren; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
