Dodge County Citizen newspaper, Oct. 31, 1896: Smith- Babcock: In the town of Beaver Dam, Oct. 31, 1896, by Rev. T. S. Johnson, Mr. Royal Smith and Miss Leila, daughter of Wilmot M. and Adah Babcock of Dakota. Mr. Smith is a son of that Veteran Royal Smith of the Soldier's Home in Milwaukee and a nephew of Eldridge Smith of Rolling Prairie. The bride is a niece of Mrs. Eldridge Smith and favorably known as a teacher in the school near Mr. Smith's. They were married in the new house built by Mr. W. Baker, east of the city, and Mr. Smith has rented the farm and will reside there.

They are on the 1900 Census of Dodge Co., Wisconsin, 1910 at Dodge Co., Wisconsin and 1920 Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin. They did not have children. He was a farmer and then a miller. On the 1930 U. S. Census of Fond du Lac he is divorced and has a female servant and her children in his household.
