Individual Details

Nancy Louisa Kirkpatrick

(11 Jun 1837 - 22 Jun 1886)

Nancy was born 11 June 1837 in Lee County, Iowa. She was married to Dr. Alvin Herbert, 4 July 1855 in Henry County, Iowa and died 22 June 1886. Alvin Herbert taught school in the home of T. M. Kirkpatrick in Goodhue County, Minnesota, in 1855 and 1856, where the couple undoubtedly became acquainted. They later moved to the Dakota Territory. An extant letter dated December 1879 bears the place-name of Palisade which is probably the Palisades in eastern South Dakota's Minnehaha County. The letter notes that Doc Herbert's sore lung hurts him, that wheat is at $1.06, and that Almon Herbert is probably the biggest Herbert in the Territory.

Nancy and Alvin Herbert had 5 children.
