John Bell Duckworth, aged 67, a well known resident of North Little Rock for many years, died in a hospital at noon yesterday. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Cora Neill, 704 East Fourteenth street; Mrs. Fannie Exum, 2304 Wolfe street, and Mrs. Jennie Beardon, 218 Park avenue, all of Little Rock and a brother Stonewall Duckworth of Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 3 this afternoon at the First Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. J. F. Ross. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in charge of Owens & Co. The North Little Rock Lodge of Elks will conduct a ceremony in his honor at both the church and grave. Pallbearers will be: Active---Henry Topf, Percy Machin, Wallace Davis, John Ketcher, W. B. Kelty and Harrison Howe. Honorary---Harvey Brown, John Bowers, T. B. Ivy, Frank Massey, M. L. Altheimer and R. E. L. Scott.
Mr. Duckworth was the first fire chief of North Little Rock, being appointed to that office when the city was incorporated, serving during the administration of the late Mayor J. P. Faucette. He later was appointed as truant officer, in which capacity he served 14 years. He was serving his second term as Constable of Hill township at his death. Mr. Duckworth came to North Little Rock from Searcy nearly 40 years ago. He conducted a sand and gravel business for many years.

Official North Little Rock yesterday honored the memory of the late John Bell Duckworth, for many years a well known resident and the first fire chief of the North Little Rock Fire Department. All city offices were closed during the funeral services yesterday afternoon and city officials, headed by Mayor Lawhon, attended the services at the First Presbyterian church. Services were conducted by the Rev. J. F. Ross at the church. The North Little Rock Lodge of Elks also conducted special services at the church and at Oakland cemetery. Firemen paid tribute to the memory of their first chief, A truck draped in mourning, led the funeral cortège from the church to the cemetery. Fire station No. 1, Main street, was draped in mourning throughout the day. Mr. Duckworth died in a Little Rock hospital Tuesday.
