Jesse Lane

Jesse Lane born to Judge Joseph and Patience (McKinne) Lane, Sr. on 3 July 1733 and died 28 October 1806. Jesse married on 16 December 1755 to Winifred Aycock, daughter of William & Rebecca (Pace) [Bradford]) Aycock. Winifred was born 11 April 1741 at Wake County, North Carolina and died 16 December 1794. Winifred died of pneumonia when driven from her home by Indians; and is buried in the Old Cemetery in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia.

Jesse was an Officer of the Third North Carolina Continentals and fought at Kings Mountain. After the Revolutionary War, The family moved to Georgia in 1784, first to Elbert and Oglethorpe counties, and finally to Jackson County.* Here in Georgia, in 1787 he built the first Methodist Church in that part of the state.
