Alice Reynolds Aycock

The Altus Times-Democrat, Altus, Oklahoma, April 1, 1948, Front Page, Col. 7: Illness Fatal To Mrs. J. H. Copas. Mrs. J. H. Copas, pioneer resident of Altus, died this morning at her home in Oklahoma City, friends here were notified. Although funeral arrangement details were not made, relatives said the body will be brought to Altus for burial Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Copas is survived by daughter and a son, Jack Copas. [Copas should be Copass].

Graveside services will be held at the Altus cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday for Mrs. Alice Copas, pioneer Jackson county resident, who died Thursday morning at her home in Oklahoma City. Funeral services for Mrs. Copas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Aycock, early-day settlers here, were held at 10 a.m. today at Shawnee. The Tims Funeral Home will be in charge of graveside service arrangements and member of the Anna Lee Chapter of the DAR of Altus will assist. Mrs. Copas was a charter member of the First Baptist church in Altus, a charter member of the local DAR and united Daughters of the Confederacy chapters, and was first president of the Altus Civic League which now is known as the City Federation. She is survived by a son, Jack and a daughter; three sisters, Mrs. A. S. J. Shaw of Oklahoma City, Mrs. J. W. Patterson of Norman and Mrs. Tom Rodgers of Texas; three brothers, Gilford Aycock of Dallas, Clay Aycock of Oklahoma City and Tom Aycock of Durham , N.C. Also surviving is a cousin W. M. McDaniel of Altus with whose family Mrs. Copas made her home here for several years.
