Merton Marion Bulla

(27 Sep 1908 - 14 Dec 1994)

The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sunday, December 18, 1994: Bulla, Merton Marion, was born September 27, 1908 in Choctaw, Ok. to William Wilson and Ruth Rupert Bulla. Moving to Oklahoma City when he was one, he lived there until his death on December 14, 1994 at the age of 86. Graduating from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1931, he practiced law in Oklahoma City for 60 years, specializing in oil and gas and probate law. As his law practice grew, so did his involvement in a variety of organizations: Bus Riders Association, Friends of the Library, American Business Club, Urban League, A.C.L.U., Visiting Nurses Association, League of Women Voters, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Putnam Heights and Northeast PTA and the First Unitarian Church. He held longterm memberships in the Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, and American Bar Associations and the Oklahoma City Mineral Lawyers Society, was elected to the American College of Probate Counsel, and was a founding member of the Association of Legal Administrators. On Law Day 1981, he was awarded the first Journal Record Award "for representation of clients when advancement of the public good is the only reward". He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bessie Jo; and his children, Carolyn B. Crepps and Marian Horning, Oklahoma City, Gordon W. Bulla, Edmond and Leslie Bulla of Bologna, Italy. Also surviving are his son-in-law, Philip F. Horning; and daughter-in-law, Lynn Bulla; as well as his grandchildren, Clay Horning, Woodward, Erin Glasgow and Sara Horning Zehrung, Oklahoma City and Barrett and Nichol as Bulla, Edmond. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Gordon G. Bulla. We will miss him keenly, as will his many friends. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests the First Unitarian Church Endowment Fund or any charity of choice. After family burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, there will be a memorial service at the First Unitarian Church, 600 N.W. 13th at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, 1994. SMITH & KERNKE.
