David Washington Neel

Posted at findagrave.com: David Washington Neel, son of James Hawthorn and Nancy Morrow Neel, was born in either Monticell, Jasper County, Georgia, or in northern Alabama. He was raised and educated in northern Alabama and then moved to Gordon County, Georgia.

David was a judge of the county court in Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia for fourteen years and he taught school at Liberty. David moved from Calhoun, Gordon County, Gerogia to Texas about 1885 and then moved from Texas to Pickens District, Chickasaw Nation, I. T. about 1889. David and his son, James Hawthorn Neel, moved to Pontotoc County, I. T. and settled near Roff, I. T. in 1892. David was living near Roff, I. T. when he died in 1893.

The above information was published in the Resolutions of Respect for D. W. Neel which was published in the Alliance Courier, Ardmore, I.T. in 1893.

David Washington Neel buried several children and other family members while he lived in Calhoun County, Georgia. None are found in any of the local cemeteries. It is believed by descendants that Judge David Washington Neel had a private cemetery on his home place, which was about three miles out of Calhoun. In the 1883-1885 time frame there was a small white church located either on, or adjacent to, David's land in Gordon County, Georgia.
