Funeral services for Floyd L. Jones, 85, were conducted April 22, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, with Pastor Walter J. Kukkonen officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon at a later date. Honorary casket bearers were: Boyd (Bud) Jones, Duane Barratt, Chis (Ralph) Jones, Emmert Madsen and George Owen. Casket bearers were: Dennis Miller, Doug Gleason, Jerry Karns, Roger Nelson, Mark Jensen and Wayne Jensen.
Floyd Lemmon Jones, the son of Ted and Margaret Mae Lemmon Jones was born May 11, 1918 in Musselshell County, Forsyth, MT and died April 18, 2004, at the Friendship Home in Audubon. Mae’s ancestry can be traced back to the 1750s in Ireland and both parents’ families were pioneer settlers of Audubon County.
Floyd attended school in Gage, MT, then completed his education at the Audubon Community Schools. Due to illness, Floyd had to quit school his sophomore year in high school. Floyd attended Morton Aircraft School in Omaha where he studied airplane assembly for approximately six months.
Floyd was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 27, 1942. He had his basic training at Fort Leavenworth, KS, then served as an ammunition handler in Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged as a private first class on Nov. 17, 1945. He returned to Audubon and helped operate the family farm.
In 1966, Floyd moved into Audubon with his parents and cared for them until their deaths; Mae in January of 1968 and Ted in April of 1985. Floyd lived at home until he moved to the Friendship Home in 1996 to recover from a broken hip.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his infant sister, Doris Bonnalyn Jones; his brothers-in-law: Donald Rutherford and Leo Jensen.
Floyd is survived by his sisters and brother: Bernice and husband, Duane Barratt of Irwin; Boyd (Bud) and wife, Ina Jones of Pendleton, OR; Fauntella Rutherford of Elgin, OR; Audrey Jensen of Audubon; his nieces and nephews: Margaret Ann Wood, Kathryn Mitchell and Bernard Jones, all of Pendleton; Sandra Kay Rutherford of Phoenix, AZ; Alan Rutherford of St. George, UT; Michael Rutherford of Elgin, OR; Gail Burke and Jennifer Jensen, both of Omaha, NE; Wayne Jensen of Raytown, MO; Karen Nelson and husband, Roger of Oakland; Karla Jensen and husband, Mark of Beaver Dam, WI; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
