Clara E. Saunders

(1854 - 28 Sep 1923)

Monmouth Daily Atlas, Monmouth, Illinois, Monday, October 1, 1923, Page 2, Col. 2: Leaves Money to Hospital. Avon---Avon loses a highly respected citizen and one who has done a great deal for this city, in the death at her home of Miss Clara Saunders. Miss Saunders had been ill for over a year. Her death occurred at six o'clock at the home where she has lived for many years. She was sixty five years old. As the last heir of her mother, whose generosity gave Avon the present library and other civic improvements, Miss Saunders' bequests will be a lasting tribute to this family which has done so much for the city. Besides providing for several churches, the library and other civic enterprises, Miss Saunders made ample provisions for the erection of a hospital in this city. The exact amount which will be available for the building of the hospital is not known at the present time, but it will be sufficient to erect a large and modern structure here, it is reported.

A search of the internet shows there is a Saunders Hospital in Avon, Illinois at the present time, May 2017.
