Harvey Watterson Wallender III

Posted at findagrave.com: Harvey Watterson Wallender, III, of Easton, 57, passed away at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore on Thursday, March 2, 2000. Born in El Paso, Texas, on January 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Harvey W. Wallender, Jr. and Annie Laurie Kirkpatrick Wallender. After graduating from the Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, which included a year's study in Madrid, Spain and graduated with a BA in 1965. In 1966 he was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the 8th Special Forces Group stationed in South America.

Wallender had a wide-ranging career in international technology transfer and marketing, including consulting and teaching positions in New York, Washington, DC and Maryland. In 1990 he founded his own consulting firm, Market and Technology Access Services, Inc. and served as Senior Advisor to the International Executive Service Corps. He was attending Wesley Theological Seminary at the time of his death, studying more intensively the Christian faith that had sustained his spirit throughout his life. He was an Elder in the National Presbyterian Church and also Chair of US/Urban Outreach Programs. Wallender will be remembered by so many for his ability to listen and encourage young and old and help them develop their own unique gifts. His passions included family, friends and the study of theology, philosophy, literature and art.

Wallender is survived by his wife, the former Fay Jean Hooker, whom he married in December 1993; a daughter, Lauren M. Wallender of Boston, and a son, Austin K. Wallender and his wife, Candace Nycz of Easton, Maryland and his beloved dog, "Bumpo".

Funeral services will be held at the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., NW, Washington, DC on Friday, March 10, 2000, at 2:00 PM. The burial will take place at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, MD on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Third Street Church of God, Urban Prayer Breakfast, 1204 Third Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 or One Ministries Unique Learning Center, 1238 New Jersey Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20001.
