Melinda Scanland was born 8 February 1811 in Jackson County, Tennessee, and died there on 28 June 1893. She married Scott Sterling McGlasson, son of barnett and Sophia (Caldwell) McGlasson. Scott was born 16 December 1804, Jackson County, Tennessee, and died there on 10 August 1845, a victim probably of typhoid fever, which killed so many of the Kirkpatrick clan in Jackson County in the summer and fall of 1845.

There were ten (10) children born of the marriage.
