Notes from Julie Kirkpatrick:
1860 Census, Arkansas, Montgomery County, Mountain Township
July 21, 1860. Post Office-Harold, p. 64
424/414 Kirkpatrick, James H., age 31, $781, Farmer, Arkansas
Kirkpatrick, Louisa, age 31, Tennessee
Kirkpatrick, Presley, age 8, Arkansas
Kirkpatrick, Lewis, age 5, Arkansas
Kirkpatrick, Amos, age 1, Arkansas
Note: I believe that the J. H. Kirkpatrick who joined Co. D, 10th Arkansas Infantry is my James H. Kirkpatrick. His two card service record shows him enlisting September 1, 1861 at Austin, Arkansas, being promoted to Corporal on March 21, 1862, and deserting August 15, 1862. He disappears at this point. Also missing is his wife Louisa Breshears Kirkpatrick. Their three sons are living with Pressia Kirkpatrick Breshears, his mother, in the 1870 White County Census. It is not known what happened to James and Louisa. There is a family legend that James and Louisa ran off together to Illinois to escape the war. There is no evidence to prove this story.
Howard Kirkpatrick was born in 1829 in Arkansas. Howard was a Confederate Soldier and did not return from the war.
