The Oklahoman, May 15, 1955 Page 158: R. N. Cowan Dies at Okemah. Okemah, May 14---Services for Rufus Newton Cowan, 72, retired farmer, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Okemah Calvary Baptist church. He died Thursday at his home south of Okemah. Cowan was born Jan. 26, 1883 in Clarksville, Ark. He was a member of the Methodist church, Welty. He later moved to Paden and in 1922, he moved to Okemah. Survivors include two sons, one daughter, Roy Cowan, Wewoka, Carl Cowan, Chickasha, Mrs. Jewell Stovall, San Diego, Calif., two brothers, Roscoe Cowan, Bakersfield, Calif.; Everett Cowan, Oklahoma City; two sister, Mrs. Annie Shite, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Lethia Needham, Oklahoma City; three grandchildren.
