The Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Missouri, Sunday, January 5, 2003, Metropolitan Edition, Page B3: Charles Preston "Press" Bassford was born June 2, 1939, to Preston and Louise Cook Bassford in Kansas City, KS. He departed this life of 63 years on Saturday, December 28, 2002, after a yearlong battle with lung cancer. Raised on a farm southeast of Beloit, KS, Press attended grade school in a one-room country schoolhouse and later graduated from Beloit High School with the Class of 1957. He worked in the printing business his entire career, retiring in 1999 and moving from Kansas City, KS to Marysville, WA. Throughout his life, Press had a passion to sing and act in Community Theater and often sang at social events when called upon. After moving to Washington, he joined the Word of Life Church where he found great solace and he continued to sing during Sunday services. Press leaves his sister, Ann Bassford of San Jose, CA, his extended family, Heidi and Mario Doiron and their children, Mariana and Mandee of Marysville, WA, cousins and aunts in Kansas and other parts of the country, along with many friends that will celebrate his life. He will be greatly missed by his family, the Word of Life Church congregation and his kind neighbors who were so supportive during his illness. A Memorial service is being held at the Word of Life Church. Press was a member of the Neptune Society and his ashes will be scattered at sea over the Puget Sound. Donations may be made in his memory to Evergreen Hospice, 12822 124th Lane NE, Kirkland, WA 98034.
