Rochester Post-Bulletin, Rochester, Minnesota, Oct. 1, 1999: AUSTIN -- A memorial service will be held for Lowell Edward Einhaus at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Austin American Legion Post 91. Mr. Einhaus, 77, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday night (Sept. 27, 1999) at his home. Born June 8, 1922, in Hampton, Iowa, he moved to Austin as a child and graduated from Austin High School in 1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, was a fighter pilot with the 20th Fighter Group, Eighth Air Force, during World War II and flew 66 missions. He achieved the rank of captain and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. After his discharge, he returned to Minnesota and attended Austin Junior College and the University of Minnesota. On Sept. 28, 1946, he married Blanche Kirkpatrick in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Einhaus worked at Hormel for 42 years and retired in 1982. From 1964 to 1980 he was an Austin city councilman and held the postions of 3rd Ward alderman and alderman-at-large. Also, he was active in the Minnesota League of Municipalities and the Austin Housing and Redevelopment Authority. He had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Our Savior's Lutheran Church, was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and Austin Country Club, and enjoyed golf and working with stained glass. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Stevana (Mrs. Donald) Erickson of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Sally Einhaus of Minneapolis; a son, David of Owatonna; five grandsons, and two great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death. Friends may call an hour before the service Monday at the church. Clausen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
