The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, Tennessee, Sunday, September 23, 2001, Final Edition, Page B8: William Cecil Pigford Jr., 78, of Memphis, retired officer at First Tennessee Bank, died of heart failure Saturday at Saint Francis Hospital. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park. Memorial Park has charge. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, a World War II Air Force veteran who received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with five clusters and the Purple Heart, and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Pigford, the husband of Dale Kerr Pigford for 55 years, also leaves a daughter, Dr. Pamela M. Pigford of Memphis, and two sons, Dr. W. Cecil Pigford III of Knoxville and Dale K. Pigford of Louisiana. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Church Health Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
