Lindgren Jr., 54, an Inland Empire teacher. died Thursday in a local ;hospital of cancer. He was a lifetime resident of the area. For the past 16 years, Mr. Lindgren was an English and dramatics teacher at West Valley High School. Twice he served as president of the West Valley Education association. In 1966, he received the WVEA 500-hour award for outstanding service to his profession as an educator. Mr. Lindgren also taught and coached athletics for two years at the Spangle, WAsh., High School and for two years at the Latah, Wash., High School. A graduate of Whitworth College, he also attended Eastern Washington state College and Tulane University. In 1965 he received his mater's degree in education from Whitworth.
After serving as a technical sergeant in the Army during World War II, Mr. Lindgren joined the Washington Air National Guard. He was called up from the Air Guard to the U. S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. For 13 years, he was a salesman for Two Swabbies Shoes in the Spokane Valley. He was a charter member of the Hillyard Boosters Club. In 1974, Mr. Lindgren made a bid for 4th District state House of Representatives Position 1. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Unity Church of Truth, S2900 Bernard, with the rev. David McClure officiating. Private graveside services will follow with the U. S. Air Force participating. The body is at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, E. Louise, at the home, N3315 Dale Road; his mother, Mrs. Walter II, (Ann) Lindgren, Spokane; five sons, Phillip E. and Timothy J. Lindgren, at the home, Walter H. III and Kirk P. Lindgren, both Spokane, and Matthew J. Lindgren, Potlatch, Idaho; three daughters, Mrs. Antonio (Susan) Vargas, Chino, Calif., Mrs. Gene (Sally) Miller and Sylvia E. Lindgren, both Spokane; four stepsons, Steve W. Wesolowski, at the home, E. Richard Allen, Tacoma; and John C. and Robert L. Allen, both Spokane; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Richard (Jonelle) Bennett Jr., Moscow, Idaho, and Mary K. Wesolowski at the home; one brother, Melvin J. Lindgren, Spokane; and nine grandchildren. The family suggests memorials may be sent to the University of Washington Medical Center's Cancer Clinic, Seattle.
