Born in Chester County, he was a son of the late J. P. and Carrie Simpson Carpenter. A member of Uriel Presbyterian Church, he had spent his entire life in Chester County. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday from Uriel Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Y. Carpenter; four brothers, W. P. Carpenter of Lewis, J. L. Carpenter of Union, J. P. and C. S. Carpenter of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Hollis of Rock Hill and Mrs. Edna Wooten of Charlotte, N. C.
