Nancy Anne Kirkpatrick

(11 May 1937 - 8 Mar 2006)

Reno Gazette-Journal, Reno, Nevada, Saturday, March 11, 2006, Page 23: Nancy Anne Carstensen passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 in her home in Yerington, Nevada. Nancy's beloved husband of 30 years, Roy, was at her side. They were married in Reno on December 16, 1977 and were sealed in the Oakland Temple on June 16, 1979. Nancy had suffered all her life from severe asthma. She was born on her mother's birthday, May 11, 1937 in Spokane, Washington to George and Elna Gray Kirkpatrick. She was preceded in death by both of her parents. Nancy lived in the Reno/Yerington area for 55 years and graduated Reno High School and the University of Nevada with a degree in education. She worked for the Washoe County, Lyon county and White Pine School Districts before retirement. Nancy will be remembered by the many foster children with whom she shared her home and life.

Nancy is the oldest of nine sisters; Carole Elna, Patricia Rae, Therse Margaret, Laurel Joan, Denise Lynn, Gay Dene, Shelly Joy and her youngest sister Janene Fay, who preceded her in death. She also has a brother, Daryl Gene. Nancy has an extended family of many nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, a great-great nephew, and brothers-in-laws whom she dearly loved and who dearly loved her.

Nancy's passion and identity were her sisters and her family, her husband, her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints--where she was actively involved in the food storage management program--especially her genealogy. She had diligently traced one line of her family back to the year 700 A.D. Nancy was the hub of her family and she will be greatly missed but always remembered for her intelligence and generosity, and her kindness and caring concern for all the young ones in the family. Nancy's pancake breakfast was the highlight of our annual family summer campout. Each one of us will always feel close to her when we can wrap ourselves in the many beautiful afghans, lap robes, and quilts that she made for each of us over the years. We love you, Nancy.

Services will be in Yerington, Nevada on Wednesday, March 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 600 N. Oregon Street at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 in Yerington on Tuesday, March 14 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services in the historical Old Chewela Cemetery in Chewela, Washington will be at a later date. Nancy will be laid to rest with her mother, her grandparents and her great-grandparents.
