Frankfort Illinois Area Genealogical Society provided this obituary: Florence Swain Passed Away Today. Well Known Benton Lady Succumbs After Long Illness At Age of 84 Years. A long and beautiful life closed peacefully at 5:15 o'clock this morning when Mrs. Florence E. Swain fell asleep at her home 1004 South Main street. She was the widow of the late S. W. Swain, to whom she was married on December 24, 1878. To this union three children, two sons and a daughter were born. They are: Theodore Paul Swain, Gertrude Fitzgerrell, of Benton, and Frank H. Swain, of Nashville. Mrs. Swain was born at Mulkeytown Dec. 4, 1859, the daughter of Leroy and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick. She was one of a family of six children, four daughters and two sons, all of whom have passed away. Until her death, Mrs. Swain was the only living charter member of the First Christian Church of this city, and before her health became impaired several years ago, was active in church and civic affairs. The body will lie in state at the Mitchell Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral service, at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. Harry Ford, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Masonic and Odd Fellows cemetery.
