Ronald, or Huey to his classmates and Geeps to his entire family, was born on Nov. 27, 1943, in Jacksonville, Ill., to James and Virginia Williams (Bilger). He was raised in the small community of Roodhouse, Ill. where he graduated from high school in 1961. Following a short stint in college, he decided to enter the military in 1963. He served the United States Army faithfully and proudly for 20 years until his retirement from Fort Huachuca in 1983. His distinguished military career included two tours in Vietnam, one of which earned him the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service behind enemy lines.
