Louis Samford Cohenour

Keokuk Daily Gate City, Keokuk, Iowa, Saturday, December 30, 1967, Page 22, Col. 4: Louis Cohenour of Elmwood, Neb., 66, a former Keokuk resident, died at 2:10 p.m. Friday in the Veterans Hospital at Lincoln after an illness of five years. Born January 26, 1901, he was a retired restaurant operator and moved from Keokuk in 1951. He was a veteran of World War II. On march 21, 1941 in Winegarden, Mo., he married Goldie Kirkpatrick. He was a member of the Christian church.

Surviving are his wife, a son Louis Jr. of Arlington, Calif., four daughters, Mrs. Betty Malcolm of Iowa City, Mrs. Glen Harpnell of Galveston, Tex., Mrs. Lloyd Moorhead of Galesburg, Ill., and Mrs. Melvin Borland of Murdock, Nebr., 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and granddaughter. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in DeJong's Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellsworth L. Woods officiating. Military service will be held in the National cemetery.

Note: Mrs. Melvin Borland is La Donna. She is the daughter of Louis and Goldie.

Louis was married to Irene H. Banks April 2, 1921 at Ottumwa, Iowa. Their children were: June L., Betty J., Mildred I., and Louis L. They are on the 1930 Census at Galesburg, Knox Co., Illinois. On the 1940 Census of Burlington, Des Moines Co., Iowa, Louis is divorced and living alone.
