Posted at findagrave.com: Stillwater News Press, May 4, 2010: Stillwater, Okla. --- Joy I. Heller passed peacefully from this earth on April 29, 2010, with her daughter and son by her side. Joy was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the youngest of two daughters to James A. Miller and Tamar Miller. She grew up riding and training horses and helped with all aspects of the family farm. Joy attended Iowa University where she received a nursing degree. During her time at IU she met David E. Heller, and they were married on Christmas Eve 1943. From this 66-year marriage came a daughter, Janet Heller Weaver; a son, Victor J. Heller; and a grandson, James R. Heller. When David returned from military duty in World War II, Joy and David moved to Stillwater, Okla., and opened a dental practice. Joy was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she focused on cooking for church activities and modernized the kitchen facility. She also sang in the choir for 50 years. Joy was very active in the Girl Scouts and served as a troop leader and camping instructor for many years. Joy was an excellent cook and an animal rehabilitator. Seven months after her husband's death, Joy moved to Tallahassee, Fla., to be near her son's family. She judged no one and loved everyone.
