The Roseville Independent, Roseville, Illinois: Nellie Grace (Woll) Kirkpatrick, 90, who was born in Lying-In Hospital at Macomb on March 23, 1909, recently died. She was born to Louis H. and Amanda (Meline) Woll. She married Ralph W. Kirkpatrick, also of Macomb, on May 9, 1942, in Michigan City, Ind. Survivors include son Ronald Kent (Shigeyo Just) of Mexico City, Mexico; grandson Morgan Ken Kirkpatrick of St. Louis, Mo.; nieces Marilyn Kirkpatrick Stone and Imogene Pollock Ellis, both of Macomb; nephew Robert Pollock of Macomb. Mrs. Kirkpatrick graduated from Macomb High School in 1927. She also was a 1931 graduate of WIU where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education with special diploma in art. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the University of Michigan, bringing her within all but dispensational status of a master’s degree. Before her marriage, Kirkpatrick taught in schools at Colchester, South Beloit and Maywood. She taught art at Kenosha, Mich., [Wis] and was named Adult Education Instructor of the Year in 1978. Active in art and community affairs for most of her 57 years at Kenosha, Kirkpatrick also was a talented musician. She directed the Presbyterian Church orchestra in Macomb and served as concert mistress at Western. At Kenosha she was first violinist of the Kenosha Symphony Orchestra until the birth of her son in 1945. The Chicago Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts once named her as its Woman of the Year. As an all-round artist skilled in many media, she won awards in numerous shows from the local to the national level. Her paintings and portraits are found in private and public collections in 48 states. Services for Kirkpatrick were Oct. 23 in Clugston-Tibbetts Funeral Home at Macomb. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church at Kenosha.

The Peoria Journal Star, Peoria, Illinois, October 21, 1999: MACOMB -- Nellie Grace Woll Kirkpatrick, 90, of Kenosha, Wis., formerly of Macomb, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, in Kenosha. She was born March 23, 1909, in Macomb to Louis and Amanda Woll. Surviving are one son, Ronald (and Shigeyo) Kirkpatrick of Mexico City, Mexico; one grandson, Morgan Kirkpatrick of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. She was an artist, teacher and lecturer for many years before she retired. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, where visitation will be one hour before services. The Rev. Lori Harvey will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Kenosha.
