Charles Tinsley Kirkpatrick was born 13 April 1928 in Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas State College, and in October 1950 he was named coach at Clover Bend High School in Arkansas. On 27 June 1959 he married Janis Mary Duncan, daughter of Robert Duncan, who was born in Yankton, Yankton County, South Dakota.

Jan and Charlie moved to Pennsylvania after having spent some years in New Mexico. Charles is now retired after working more than thirty years for Equitable Insurance. Jan is a teacher. They are living in Houston, Texas (1994).

There were four (4) children born of the marriage.
