Generation No. 1
1. John1 Chapman (1) was born Abt. 1720 in MD, and died 1780 in Wilkes Co., NC. He married Eurith ? Barnes, who was said to be "of" Baltimore Co., MD.
Notes for John Chapman:
LDS shows John md to Eurith Barnes, does not show son, George, has Nicholas, James, Sarah, John, Enoch, Raleigh and Nathan, all b. MD. I find no Barnes & Chapman family together on Broderbund's Colonial Census disk and can find none living near each other in the Maryland records.
John Chapman was murdered about 1780 by a Godfrey Isbell. Isbell fled the area and was never prosecuted. Stories say the reason for the murder was because John Chapman was "a vocal Tory". A very knowledgeable historian in Taylorsville, NC, a Miss Opal Harrington, writes "tradition states it was not in any way connected to the American Revolution. Both families were Whigs, not Tories."
Notes for Eurith ? Barnes
LDS shows a wife named Eurith \\. This is the only source of her name. However a Eurith Chapman is found on the census for 1790 Rutherford Co., NC. Is it possible that someone used this as her name?
Others show she was a Barnes, no proof
A will was found in Onslow Co., NC which is the only time I find the Chapman and Barnes names associated.
Joseph Barnes Date of will 04 Jul 1755 names:

9 viii. Sarah Chapman, born Abt. 1769 in Baltimore Co., MD; died 1854.
Notes for Sarah Chapman: Tom Chapman sent this from the pension papers of Nicholas, "in answer to the interogatories propounded by the court, I was born in the year 1758 in Baltimore County what is now in the state of Maryland. I have no record of my age. But it was recorded in my father's Common prayer book as used by the Church of England, but my sister has taken it off to some new county, and I do not know where it now is."
Per Tom, they lived in Rutherford Co., NC for a time, then moved to the extreme southwestern part of North Carolina. Sarah, as a widow, eventually ended up in Macon Co., GA. The only Aaron Thomas I can find is Aaron Thomas md Sarah Silvy in Rutherford Co., NC Dec 29, 1797, they moved to Macon Co., GA where he died, she is the widow found there.
10 ix. Robert Chapman.

4. Enoch2 Chapman (John1) was born Abt. 1752 in Baltimore Co., MD, and died Bet. 1830 - 1834 in Franklin Co., Highland Twp., IN. "Enock (sic) Chapman had an entry in Burke Co. on Jan. 22, 1779, on Lower Little River for 216 acres of land adjoining Edwin Brown and Richard Hood. The chain carriers for the survey were Edwin Brown and John Hood. Enock Chapman would be about the same age as John Chapman and was probably a brother." (Source: The Heritage of Alexander Co., NC.)
