"A granddaughter of John and Elizabeth Parkin [Jessie McLatchey] married a William Mills McNaughtin [sic] of Salisbury in 1871. He was a tanner and leather manufacturer, whose firm had branches in Moncton and Hillsborough. (fn 21 = Parkins of NB by Steeves) The Moncton Daily Times, Aug. 13, 1877, reported the boiler had burst in McNaughton's Tannery in Salisbury two days earlier, tearing the end out of the tannery building as well as damaging the walls and roof. The workforce fortunately was on dinner break at the time and escaped injury."
