James Kirkby b.1783 was the son of William Kirkby b.1758 and Nanny Nickson b.1757 So it is possible it was them witnessing the marriage of their son. The Kirkby's/Kirby's appear to be a massive farming family around these parts and I have had a lot of trouble identifying the relationships as it is all now down to church records which only give a limited insite. One of these days I will spend a few days up at the Lancaster records office and attempt to unravel some of it. For much information on James' parents speak to Andrea Jenkinson who has most of that family mapped out.

John who died January 16th 1795 aged 18 months. Molly who died on the same day aged 6 years and Richard who died February 2nd 1795 aged 4 years. At Miss Noon's, the Royal Oak inn, Lancaster, on Saturday the 8th day of August next, at six o'clock in the evening :
LOT I.
A compact FREEHOLD ESTATE, called
COLLIWAY,
Situate within the township of Overton, about four miles from Lancaster, and two from Sunderland, consisting of a good FARMHOUSE, Barn, Stable, Shippon, and other suitable outbuildings. Orchard, Garden, and about 98a. 2r. 7p. statute measure of Arable, Meadow, Pasture, and Marsh LAND, lying within a ring fence, and now in the possession of Mr. John Kirkby.
This estate is situate on the banks of the river Lune, where sea sand to any extent may be procured, it also abounds with excellent marle.
LOT II.
A CLOSE OF MEADOW LAND, called KERRY MEADOW, situate within Overton aforsaid, containing about 2a. 1r. 10p. statue measure, also in the possession of John Kirkby.
LOT III.
One Undivided Fourth Part of FIVE DWELLING-HOUSES, with Gardens attached, and about 3r. 18p. of LAND, situate at the Marsh Side, in Cockerham, and now in the several possessions of Robert Whittaker, James Gardner, Richard Curwen, Matthew Whittaker, and John Physick.

One Undivided Fourth Part of a SEAT or PEW in the West gallery in Cockerham Church.
