Death
Council Grove Republican, 29 June 1894BAXTER -- At the family residence in this city at 12:30 last Monday night, Mrs. Florence Ruth Baxter, beloved wife of June Baxter, Jr.
Florence Ruth Pearson was born in New Brunswick, Canada, March 3, 1858. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1871 and was married to Mr. June Baxter, Jr., November 25, 1880. At 4 o-clock Saturday afternoon Mrs. Baxter was suddenly prostrated with appoplexy and although everything was done for her that medical skill could command she remained unconscious until her death, passing quietly and peacefully to that land from which no traveler returns. As the news of her death spread through the city it cast a shadow of sadness upon every heart.
Mrs. Baxter was a proud, fond mother and her husband and family were her all on earth. The central figure of the happy household has been called home. She leaves two children, a son 11 years old and an infant born but a few days before her death. The remains were taken to White City Tuesday evening and funeral services held at the Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. L Armsby of this city. The esteem and kindly regard in which she has been held by her friends and neighbors was evidenced by the many that followed the remains to the cemetery to pay the last tribute of respect tot he dead.
