Hans Georg VOLLENWEIDER
(11 Feb 1821 - 18 Mar 1869)
He marries Anna Elizabeth Wegmann on 15 Oct 1850 Itobal, Bussnang, Thurgau, Switz Anna was born 6 Nov 1806 Humblein, Switz and died 6 Jun 1866 in Toos, Thurgau, Switz.
In researching the old Mormon records in Switzerland it shows that she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while she was alive. Her daughter also joined the Church and came to America. This daughter is the ancestor of Ruth Jenson, a correspondant on this line.
It is interesting to note that when someone leaves the country the family may pronounce them dead; thus resulting in the inheritance which would have been theirs being freed up for the rest of the family remaining in Switzerland to enjoy.
The daughter that joined the Church was named Emily b. 4 Jan 1851 and died 13 Jun 1918 in Utah She married Johannes Meir (Meyer) 26 Dec 1870 in Salt Lake, probably the Endowment House. He was born 7 Dec 1841 Wattwil, Switzerland. His family lived through some tough times. In the court records it shows that his mother went in many times to testify against his father on drunkeness, and failure to support her and the children. Finally two of the sons ended up in orphanages because she was unable to care for them. Also she and a daughter ended up in a poor hourse with nothing. These two sons, herself and daughter, Emily, later joined the Church. They had come from very humbling situtations and I'm sure needed the gospel to give them some light in their lives.
