"I found out about Isaac from a Loyalist chart that was sent to me by another Young Genealogist from Canada. I can't remember which one but he got it out of a loyalist book. It states in the Young line up that Mary A Young was the3rd child of Peter Young who was the second son of Sgt. Daniel Young. In the line up it states Mary A YOUNG married Isaac Stephen CARPENTER m. 12 VI 1831. The Roman numeral VI, I assume indicates the 6 month which is June. All the other marriage dates are listed the same but I didn't enter it in what I sent you. Other children of the Young families are missing from the Loyalist line up and I have come to the conclusion that they probably died.
I also have a very well done paper do by George Nunnamaker who is a cousin from our Wedge line. The Paper is called THE PAPERS AND RECORDS OF A FAMILY OF YOUNG'S OF THE GRAND RIVER. In it it list Isaac Carpenter several times but no real info on him but a lot of info on Danniel Young and the disposition of his will and of the land dispute that occurred. The bulk of YOUNG genealogy info along with other Loyalist family genealogy can be found at the Hamilton Library in Hamilton."

"An elderly cousin, first cousin once removed, had in her possession a hand written list of birthdates of the Isaac Carpenter family. She found it in her fatherus sea trunk after his death. This list gave me the following information:
Isaac Carpenter b. Dec 26, 1811 in New York
d. April 1, 1899 in Sombra, buried Stokes Farm, Sombra Mary Ann Carpenter b. June 19,1809
d. 1870 Edmund Carpenter b. June 25, 1832 Charlotte Carpenter b. January 1834 Brock Carpenter b. August 08, 1835 Peter Carpenter b. September 11, 1837 Cramer Carpenter b. October 03, 1840 Martha Henry b. August 28, 1842 d. Feb 1903 Alexander Carpenter b. April 24, 1844 d. April 30, 1874 Barbara Meyers b. November 10, 1846 d. 1929 Nelson Carpenter b. June 16, 1849 Elizabeth Ann Brown b. May 19, 1851 Abraham Carpenter b. March 13, 1853 d. August 8, 1853
I have confirmed Isaacus death date through the Index of Vital Statistics of Ontario. Also, Mary Ann Youngus death is listed as March 30, 1870 in the same Index. Oral history said that Isaac Carpentersus family had a land grant that was so big that you could not ride around it in a day and that it was in Oneida. At first I thought of Oneida, NY but after I found that Peter and Cramer were born in Seneca and Oneida, Haldiman, I realized that it was Oneida, Ontario. And later found that the land grant was from Mary Annus family not Isaacus. I also have been told that the Carpenters immigrated to the US in 1706 but have not been able to confirm this. All the records on Isaac (census, death, etc) have indicated that Isaac was born in NY; otherwise I would wonder if Isaacus family was also UEL also.
I have some information on a John Carpenter who was in Lambton Co at the same time as Isaac. He was born ca 1823 in Long Point(?). If he is Isaacus brother and Isaac was born in NY, the family must have immigrated to Canada between 1811 and 1823 and would not be UEL. When I find the info on John I will send it along if you want.
I have been trying to trace the reference to Stokes farm. There was a Stokes farm not far from the Carpenter homestead but I have not had any luck in locating a cemetery there. The Sombra township museum sent me a list of cemeteries and there is a Carpenter cemetery listed. (Concession 13, lot 12)-In use 1824-1927."

"Isaac did not come to the states as far as I know. I don't think I have looked at the 1881 and 1891 census for Sombra but I believe that Isaac lived with Nelson. Nelson was listed as the informant on his death record and gave Isaac's residence when he died as lot 5 conc 10 ( I think this was Nelson's residence)
Cramer and Peter moved to Huron Co., Mi at the time of the great fire which swept the thumb area in 1881. Tradition says that Cramer and his family climbed down a well as the fire passed them and that Peter and his family waded out into Lake Huron. I can't swear that this is true but it does make a nice story." FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page FIELD NAME Page
