She first became engaged to Thomas Vail, as is shown by the following excerpts from the Woodbridge Friends' Monthly Meeting Record:
"Meeting held 20th of 4th month (June) 1717; John Lain and John Shotwell Jun. appt'd to speak to Experience Moores (fitzRandolph that was) to endeavour to bring her to a sense of her outgoings, first her Appearing before this meeting at Severall times with Thomas Vail declaring her intention of taking him to be her husband and not performing the same but on the contrary marrying Another man out of this meeting & not having the consent of parents...."
"Meeting 18th of 5th mo. (July) 1717; The friends Appointed to speak to Experience Moores Report they have spoken with her but that she at present does not seem to give so full Satisfaction as is desired, it is therefore left for her further consideration until the next mo. meeting And the Friends for that purpose before appointed desired to continue this case." .
