!Ancestral File 1993 Deacon Smithfield Church from 1747. One of 1st to settle in Wyoming Valley Feb 1709. In Oct 1753 he subscribed $2 to the Journeying Committee of the Sesquehanna Co. for the purchase of lands from the Indians at Wyoming Valley. He first went there in 1755. On Dec 28, 1768 the Sesquehanna Co., meeting in Hartford, Conn., granted land to the "first forty" settlers including Benjamin and his son Elijah. They moved in about Feb. 1769.
