James Cave, 85, of Snyder, formerly of Roby, passed away Friday, November 22, 2002 at D.M. Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002 at Roby Church of Christ with Richard Melton officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery under the direction of Cate- Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Mr. Cave was born May 3, 1917 in Fisher County, Texas. He married Eilene McReynolds on May 20, 1939 in Roby.
After graduating from Roby High School, he engaged in farming and ranching with his father in Fisher County. Mr. Cave began the first herd of Angus cattle in the area and over the years furnished many club calves and breeding stock from his herd. He served as board member on Roby School Board, Hobbs Co-op Gin, Texas Angus Association, Midwest Electric Co-op and Fisher County ASC Committee. He was an active member of Roby Church of Christ of which his mother's family were charter members.
Survivors include his wife, Eilene Cave of Snyder, Texas, formerly of Roby, Texas; one son, Dr. James R. Cave and wife, Lois of Snyder, Texas; two daughters, Sara Jane Spencer and husband, Jimmy of Denton, Texas and Nina Sue Hicks and husband, Tommy of Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Holmsley and husband, Rowdy, Paul Spencer and wife, Heather, Jilann Backstrom and husband, Jerry, Matthew Cave and wife, Becky, Robin Cave, Sterling Eilene Cave and Mark Cave.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Nina Cave.
Pallbearers will be Paul Spencer, Matthew Cave, Mark Cave, Rowdy Holmsley, Jerry Backstrom and Brad Stuart.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the funeral home.
