Notes
Census
Household #92 page 25, John Duffy, Married age 38, Hand Loom Weaver/battan, born Lancashire, Ashton; Sarah wife, married age 33, domestic --------, born Lancashire, Aston; -------- daughter, age 18, Tenden in ------; Betty daug 13, Samuel son age 10, Seavinger in Cotton Mill; James age 8; Sarah age 4; John age 2 months.Marriage
It appears that Ann had Hannah out of wedlock. After the birth of Hannah, Ann continued to live with her parents with the Duffy surname. In the 1881 British census Ann was listed as head of household age 46, working as a grocer, Hannah age 22 as her daughter was next and below Hannah was Jane Evelyn age 10 months also listed as daughter. I am assuming that Jane Evelyn was the daughter of Hannah because in all future lists in United States Census she is the daughter of Hannah.Census-shared

Census
On the 1881 census Ann Duffy was living next door, in Ashton-Under-Lyne, to her widowed father, John Duffy. It appears that Ann was never married although she stated she was a widow. She is followed from birth through census reports to 1881 with the same surname. She never appeared in a census with another man, always with her parents. It also appears that Hannah her daughter has a child Jane Evelyn who eventually immigrated to the United States and lived with James Gould as a family with the Gould name. No marriage registration has been found for James Gould and Hannah Duffy.British 1881 census: 12 Pitt Street, Ashton Under Lyne, Market Ward, Christ Church Parish, Anna Duffy head of household widow, age 46, grocer; Hannah Duffy daughter, age 22, cotton winder; Jane Eveline daughter age 10 months.
