Conversion through Healing
At the time of this story, Great Grandfather Lloyd and family were living at Williamson, County, Tennessee. For several months the yellow fever had been raging through the county killing nearly everyone who was unfortunate enough to contract it. Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother Lloyd were both stricken and died leaving a family of orphan children, among them Robert Lewis Lloyd. Soon after the death of his parents, Robert Lewis contracted the fever and for weeks lay between life and death.
One day two young missionaries called at their home. They were Mormon Missionaries and were the first that had ever been in that town. Robert's sister Caroline answered their knock and Robert Lewis heard them calling and begged that they might be brought back. He told them he had a feeling that if they would pray for him he would recover. Caroline finally listened to his pleading, and the missionaries were sent for. After the administration he began to improve and in a few days was as well as he had ever been.
This experience convinced Robert of the truthfulness of the gospel and soon after he joined the church. His sisters and brothers drove him away from home telling him they never wanted to see him again.
From Tennessee he went to Texas where he met and married Eliza Adeline Goheen. Their first child, Mary Dorinda was born in Texas. They came to Utah and settled at Fort Harriman, Salt Lake County. During the winter Amelia Jane their second child was born. Their hardships were many that first winter. (185) All they had to eat was potatoes and beans without any bread.
Early in the spring of 1856, President Brigham Young called several families to settle Dixie Country and Robert and his wife were among them. They endured many hardships that only the sturdy pioneers were able to endure. They lived in Washington until 1870. When they moved to Pine Valley. Robert the bishop of the Pine Valley Ward for several years and he and his wife lived there until their death. They had a family of twelve children.
