Notes
Death
Birth: Aug. 16, 1826Death: May 9, 1894
Charlotte was the youngest of the children of John and Hannah Niblack.
From the Tecumseh Herald 17 May 1894: "Mrs. [Edward] Wells Goheen, who submitted to a surgical operation last week, continued to fail until death came to her relief. The funeral services were held last Thursday and were largely attended." And on 24 May 1894, page 4: "We are informed by Dr. Jenkins that Mrs. Wells Goheen did not die as the result of a surgical operation. Death was caused by the strangulated condition of the intestines, and not by the operation, which was performed for the sole purpose of giving the woman the only chance for her life." In the same issue on page 1: "OBITUARY--Died, May 9th, 1894, Charlotte T. Goheen, aged 67 years, 8 months and 23 days, of heart failure. The subject of this sketch, whose maiden name was Niblack, was born in Sparta, Livingston County, N.Y., August 16, 1826. She came with her parents to Michigan in the autumn of 1832 and settled in section 32, Saline township, Washtenaw county, where she was married to E. W. Goheen, forty-five years ago last March, and moved to the place of her late residence which has been her home ever since. The husband and five children remain to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. She was the youngest of ten children, all of whom except Wm. Niblack, of Locust Corners, Hillsdale county, have passed on before. Thus the light of another home has gone out, but she has only gone to await us on a brighter, happier shore. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Macon, conducted by the Rev. C. M. Stout, of Clinton, and the remains interred in the Macon cemetery." Below that: "CARD OF THANKS--We desire to express our grateful appreciatioin of the thoughtfulness and kind assistance rendered us during the sickness and death of our wife and mother. E. W. Goheen and Family"
