Mrs. Horace F. Taylor,
Prominent City Pioneer
Mrs. Horace F. (Emily) Taylor, member of one of Big Spring's prominent pioneer families, died Wednesday afternoon in a local hospital. In failing health for a number of years, she had undergone major surgery a few days ago. She was 82
Mrs. Taylor was born Oct. 24, 1885, in Edwardsville, Ala. She was married to Horace F. Taylor March 3, 1903, in Corsicana and they came to Big Spring in 1905. Mr. Taylor in earlier years operated a grocery store here, then was engaged in the real estate business.
A member of the Methodist Church and for many years active in its women's programs. Mrs. Taylor was known as a devoted woman who gave much attention to her home and family. The residence for many years has been at 1104 Scurry.
Services are to be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Leo Gee, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the City Cemetery under direction of River-Welch Funeral Home.
Young men of the First Methodist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband and six daughters: Mrs. Robert Currie and Mrs. Vernon Smith, both of Big Spring; Mrs. Henry Edwards, San Angelo; Mrs. Harold Hortis, Dallas; Mrs. William T. Dykes, Brownfield; and Mrs. Vane Lebkowsky, Odessa. There are also nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
