...The data which follow concerning Caleb Goble were obtained from Papers on file in claim for pension, R. 4075, based upon his military service in the Revolutionary War.
Caleb Goble was born in New Jersey (date not given) and left there quite young. The names of his parents are not given.
Caleb Goble lived during the Revolutionary Was in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and after that war, moved to Mason County, Kentucky, was there about one year, then to Warren County, Ohio, there ten years, to Miami County, Ohio.
He applied for pension October 31, 1832, then living in said Selby County, aged seventy-two years, and stated that when about sixteen years of age, he
was enrolled in 1776, in Captain Benjamin Rice's company of Washington County, Pennsylvania Militia, served one month at Jackson' Fort under Captain Charles Crawaft (?), that he served six months as substitute for his brother, Daniel Goble, in Captain James Brinton's company, Colonel Crawford's regiment, and assisted in building Forts McIntosh and Laurens, after which he served as Indian Spy at various times until the close of the war, was stationed at Lindleys Fort in Washington County, Pennsylvania, part of the time.
The Claim for pension was not allowed as proof of service as required by the pension law was not established.
It is shown, also, in the claim that Caleb Goble married in the year 1786, Sarah. The date and place of her birth, and names of parents were not stated. Caleb Goble died March 23, 1838, and his widow, Sarah, died April 13, 1850.
John Goble, son of the soldier, Caleb Goble, and wife, Sarah, was fifty-six years old in 1852, then living in Shelby County Ohio. Reference was made in 1853 to other heirs of the soldier but no names were stated.
