Death
James L. Tillery, 83, a butcher, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2007, at a local care center.Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
James was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Grapevine to Tim and Cora Tillery.
He worked for Swift & Co. for 29 1/2 years and retired from Aston Meat Co. in 1986. James coached baseball in Haltom City from 1961 to 1969 and loved to attend girls' fast-pitch softball games. He was a former school crossing guard for David Smith, O.H. Stowe and Mullendore elementary. James was a member of Haltom Road Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff at Richland Hills Nursing Home and American Hospice.
Survivors: Beloved wife of 62 1/2 years, Nina; daughter, Joyce Thompson; son, Mike Tillery, both of Haltom City; grandsons, Jeff and Jay Thompson, both of Fort Worth; sister, Betty Loges and husband, Wayne; brothers, Jerrell Tillery and W.C. Tillery and wife, Joan, all of Grapevine; and several nieces and nephews.
