Death
W C Goble, Father of former Denton Man, Died at DallasDenton friends and relatives of A W Goble, a former well known Denton citizen, will learn with sympathy of the death of his father. W C Goble, at Kerens recently. Of his death the Dallas News publishes the flowing:
The body of W C Goble, a pioneer of Dallas, who died Dec 8 at the home of his daughter, Mrs J L Coffman, in Kerens, was received in Dallas at 7:40 o'clock yesterday morning, accompanied by his son A W Goble of Sweetwater. The funeral services were held at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the chapel of the Ed C Smith & Bro. Undertaking Company and burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr Goble was born 12 Feb 1828, in Henry County, Indiana, near Indianapolis, being 85 years old at the time of his death. He came to Texas in 1856, located on a farm south of Dallas, near Ferris. He served the four years during the Civil War in the Southern army under Polignas. At the end of the second year he received a furlough and walked from New Orleans to Ferrris. After the war Mr Goble moved to Dallas and bought two acres of ground, now the corner of Elm and Ervay streets, paying $450 for it. At this time there were no railroads in Texas. He established the first broom factory in Texas and received a premium at the first Texas State Fair. He built the first corn mill in Dallas located on Ervay and Elm streets. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Goble married Miss Sarah Ann Brown of Chatfield, Navarro County. He is survived by two children, A W Goble of Sweetwater and Mrs J L Coffman of Kerens.
