His weife Julia A. is 62 years old and has had one child that is not living. Julia was born in Illinois and her father born in Massachusetts and mother in Ohio. Amos, Learned's brother is 63 years old and born in Illinois. Ellen his sister is 62 years old and born in Illinois. Nearly eighty friends gathered gathered at the home of Mrs. Julia Crittenden Gleason, 1115 Whitney boulevard to help her celebrate her eightieth birthday. Among those present were four generation of nieces. The first generation was represented by Mrs.Lucy Bishop Johnson of El Centra, Calif. [Julia's sister] The next three generations were from Belvidere. The friends left a nice array of gifts of flowers, plants, sweets. etc. A birthday cake made by Mrs. D. G. Albright attracted much attention, In decorating the cake she had placed among many roses and forget-me-nots the finely written inscription: "In honor of Julia Crittenden Gleason's 80th birthday, September 29, 1847-1927; from candle to electricity, from ox-c art to airplane. Because you have the knack of making others glad, I hope your birthday makes this day the best you ever had."In 1836, P. S. Crittenden, with wife and two children drive an ox-team from Ohio to the homestead seven miles southeast of Belvidere, on the old stage read, now the Genoa road. The farm is now owned by the Meyers estate.
Deacon Crittenden and wife became leaders in organizing the Christian people of the country. Their cabin became a gathering place for prayer and preaching services. "Old Elder Law...tired, but they at once made home welcome. He says "the good Mrs. Crittenden cooked him a hot meal; gave him a warm bed then dried his clothing that he might be ready to preach to the people who would gather next day for an al-day service. Mrs. Gleason next to the youngest of nine children and the only one now spent her childhood amid such an environment. Her soul is still young and "childhood itself is scarcely more lovely than a cheerful, kindly, sunshiny old age."
January 7, 1876 she was married to L. Gleason. They settled on the farm adjoining that of her father. Their only child, a girl died when only two years old.
